Municipal Art Company
Municipal art company has been formed for the emotional cultivation of citizens and the development of municipal culture and art., consisting of choir of boys and girls, choir and farm music band. The leader of each choir or band is a deputy mayor.
Gwangmyeong Municipal Choir of Boys and Girls
Since 1997 when Gwangmyeong Municipal Children’s Choir was established, it has enhanced its national prestige, making a meaningful contribution to the emotional cultivation of citizens and the development of municipal culture and art by performing at home and abroad including 39 regular concerts, a concert at Carnegie Hall in the U.S and a concert tour around four European countries as an 2002 Korean World Cup ambassador and a concert invited by the city of Austin in the U.S. In December, 2011, KBS Symphony Orchestra invited the choir to join in its regular performances together and choir’s perfectly harmonized singing voices along with the Orchestra encouraged big applaud from audience and those in classic music areas. At the same time, the choir also has given various types of performances ranging from Korean traditional dance, musicals to K-POP, which has been led by Senior conductor, Park Hun and its 70 members who have been in the front line of youth culture and art and, of which passion and efforts have given its way to citizens’ great love and support.
Gwangmyeong Municipal Choir
Since November, 2000 when Gwangmyeong Municipal Choir was set up, it has built its reputation, playing various performances invited by other local areas and other countries including East Europe and Asia as well. Since Maestro, Kim Young-Jin was chosen as the first senior conductor in 2011, the choir has communicated with Gwangmyeong citizens through music, by providing music concerts, street performances, many festivals and events. At the same time, The performance held in Liaocheng, China which is considered the sister city of Gwangmyeong allowed the choir to show Gwangmyeong’s excellence of culture and art, paving the way for strengthening friendship between those cities. Plus, the choir also joined in the national tours by the World’s best soprano, Jo Su-Mi for 2 consecutive years and still has been trying to elevate Gwangmyeong’s reputation by continuously participating in national events such as 6.25 memorial ceremony and 8.15 celebration ceremony. As a cultural ambassador of Gwangmyeong, Gwangmyeong municipal choir now spare no efforts to become the best performer not only in Gwangmyeong but also in the world.
Gwangmyeong Municipal Farm Music Band
Since its establishment in April, 2010, Gwangmyeong Municipal Farm Music band has been growing into a traditional cultural art performer through various performances at home and abroad with an aim of preserving and passing down Gwangmyeong farm music which has been designated as a Gyeonggi-do intangible cultural asset, No. 20. For achieving such a goal, it has worked with various countries’ municipal governments such as the city of Austin, the city of Liaocheng, China which are considered sister cities of Gwangmyeong for cultural exchange projects and also provided various events such as outreach concerts, Gwangmyeong farm music festival, Gureumsan art festival for the joy of citizens.
