Gwangmyeong Cave

Description: Gwangmyeong Cave (formerly Siheung Mine), which was initially developed by the Japanese in 1912 for resource extraction, was closed in 1972. For over 40 years, it was used as a storage facility for shrimp paste. In 2011, Gwangmyeong purchased the cave and transformed it into a historical and cultural tourist attraction. With a total length of 7.8 km (2 km open to the public) and a depth of 275m, the interior of Gwangmyeong Cave features various cultural spaces such as the Wormhole Plaza, Space of Light, Hall of Art, and Golden Palace. These areas are beautifully decorated to provide a diverse cultural experience.

Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center

Description: Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center is the first of its kind in South Korea, dedicated to the theme of upcycling. It is a space where discarded resources are transformed into high-quality artistic creations. Gwangmyeong Traditional Market

Description: Having started as a small market that opened every five days in 1970, Gwangmyeong Traditional Market has now developed into a large market with over 500 shops. Stores connected by alleyways offer various attractions, dining options, and entertainment, providing convenience for customers’ shopping experience by setting up customer lounges and public parking lots.

Dodeoksan Suspension Bridge

Description: The Dodeoksan Suspension Bridge is a Y-shaped suspension bridge that spans 82 meters in length, with a height of 20 meters and a width of 1.5 meters. It connects the upper part of the Dodeoksan Artificial Waterfall and a hiking trail. This bridge symbolizes the harmony and meeting between the green forest, artificial waterfall, and the citizens. From the center of the suspension bridge, you can create wonderful memories with the artificial waterfall as your backdrop.

Hannae Galaxy Trail

Description: Hannae Galaxy Trail is a citizen rest area in Gwangmyeong, known as the City of Light. It boasts a beautiful nighttime landscape and serves as a space for citizens to relax. Each area of the trail is adorned with various symbolic installations such as the Galaxy Ring, Rainbow Bridge, and Starlight Waves, creating a healing space that combines relaxation and emotional satisfaction.

Saebit Park & Retention Basin

Description: In the place where there used to be a representative facility for sewage treatment, which was considered a major nuisance and source of disgust, the sewage treatment facility has been relocated underground. In collaboration with Gwangmyeong and Anyang, an eco-friendly green space of 180,000 square meters has been created on the surface. Saebit Park, which is managed by Gwangmyeong, and Saemul Park, which is managed by Anyang, are adjacent to each other. Within Saebit Park, a self-purification reservoir has been created to serve as flood control during emergencies and to provide a resting place for citizens during normal times.

Gwangmyeong Station (KTX)

Description: Gwangmyeong Station (KTX), with a size of 48,184 square meters (6.7 times the size of a soccer field), has been designed to resemble the roof of a traditional Korean house (hanok) and the shape of a ship’s sail. The glass ceiling allows for natural lighting during the day, creating an airport-like atmosphere, while at night, it evokes a sense of a spaceship. Centrally located near the station within a 15-minute walking distance, you can find major shopping malls such as IKEA, Lotte Mall, Costco, and AK Plaza. In addition, Gwangmyeong International Design Cluster (GIDC) has been established, creating a complex cultural district that combines design, shopping, culture, and tourism.

Chunghyeon Museum

Description: Chunghyeon Museum, the first downtown museum in the country, preserves the relics and artifacts of the prominent 18th-century merchant Yi Won-ik (pen name Ori), known for dealing in quality white porcelain during the Joseon dynasty, and his direct descendants. The exhibition hall Chunghyeongwan, Gwangamdang, Jongtaek, and the Shrine to Ori, featuring the portrait of Yi Won-ik, have been restored, along with Tangeumam, the rock where Ori Yi Won-ik played the harp, and a 400-year-old thuja tree.

Ki Hyungdo Literary Museum

Description: The Ki Hyungdo Literary Museum is a comprehensive cultural space representing Gwangmyeong, equipped with systematic exhibitions and educational functions. The Ki Hyungdo Literary Museum is comprised of a permanent exhibition hall and a special exhibition hall that recreate the life and literature of poet Ki Hyungdo with the theme of youthfulness. Visitors can experience various exhibition-linked programs and explore the poet’s personal belongings.

Anyangcheon Stream

Description: The Anyangcheon Stream is a stream that originates from the southwest valley of Cheonggyesan Mountain, the eastern part of Gwacheon, as the main stream of the Hangang River. It flows through the Gwangmyeong area and offers a riverside promenade, a deck pedestrian walkway, and various landscaping features such as plants and landscape lighting, allowing visitors to enjoy beautiful flowers, trees, and stunning night views
