Introduction to Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center

Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center, part of “Cultural regeneration project for waste industrial complex’ planned by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is an artistic space for residents in which a series of upcycle-related exhibitions, design education and events are held. It was established in an effort to provide cultural experiences and boost artistic competence among residents by remodeling promotion building within resource collection facilities in the city and building a new eco-edu center, an education center for design.
Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center offers a creative cultural space and environment where writers, citizens and businessmen can have an opportunity to gather and share their experiences each other, with a meaning of rebirth of community, through culture and art.
Also, as the only upcycle center in the country, it will become a leading venue by discovering beauty of upcycling in our daily lives, which can re-create other values rather than using once and throwing away.
To do this, Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center is planning to provide upcycle design education and experiences, special exhibitions and performances, as well as activity programs and educational programs by working with regional enterprises. Furthermore, it will train artists for upcycle art center as artists’ residency business, and development project of markets and workshops are expected to contribute to regional economic stimulation. As such, the center will be a new cultural center where artists, businessmen, and residents can participate, develop, and produce together.
